New PDA/smartphone - wait or buy??

Wondering about people's thoughts on whether or not to buy now, or wait for what appears to be a spate of new and incredible cellphones that appear to be coming to America in 2009? By the way, what's up with other countries always being light years ahead of good ol' US regarding cellphone functionality and networks? We are just heading into 3G here while other countries are watching tv on their cellphones?
